The year is 1996 and Dilmer Alexander Lovos Mendez (DALM) was born
in a town so small in El Salvador that everyone knows one another. Starting at
the young age of 5 Dilmer has been heavily involved with his town's performances.
Dilmer realized that he had the potential to do so much more with the world of
dance and decided to take a leap of faith and move to the United States to peruse
his dreams.
While he was in high school, Dilmer earned extra credit in his courses by
joining dance groups. After completing high school, he went on to train with a
dance program at the University of Southern California to earn his merit as a
choreographer and dancer.
Dancing had always been a way for Dilmer to express himself, for him to
feel free. Dancing had become his way of life. His world revolved around dance
and still does to this day. He finds peace in the music that he listens to, tranquility
in the songs that he will end up choreographing.
As his professional dance instructor career started, he believed it to be
important that he showed others that dance is a form of expression. That through
dance they can increase their self-esteem, get in better shape, improve their health,
and overall have a sense of completion with life. By being able to show others all
of this through dance he was able to garner the support, love, and admiration of the
Los Angeles community. Soon he hopes to garner the same type of support from
the San Bernardino County and Orange County; by making learning and fitness
through dance exciting by making it an attainable talent to all those that step into
his studio no matter of age, height, weight, or culture.
Dilmer has had the honor to participate in the 2013 Rocking Eve hosted by
Ryan Seacrest and Fergie. He has also made appearances on ABC 7. Being able to
appear in major performances like these had so many doors open for him, with
these opportunities he increased his level of fame from local to national in just a
few short years. With his fame peaking, he saw this as way that he could help
others. He thought to himself “how can I do this?” and finally he came up with the
concept for DALM Dance Company.
As for the choreography, Dilmer is inspired by two of his idols. Lady Gaga
and Michael Jackson, two incredible vocalists with a unique voice that cannot be
confused for that of another artist’s. They have both had groundbreaking music
videos with choreography that pioneered in a different direction that was in the
main stream media being used by most artist of their days. Not only that, they also
focused a large part of their career on making a difference in the lives of others.
Today, DALM Dance Company has choreographed for over 215
Quinceñeras (15th Birthday Celebrations), Sweet 16s, and Weddings.
